So, I’ve been slogging along with my thesis, trying to get everything wrapped up on time. I have a month from yesterday to get the experiments, models, and paper wrapped up to the point that my advisers are willing to sign off on me being ready to defend. I’ve gone back through my thesis, trying to add in all the stuff I’ve done since I last stopped writing (back in 2004 or so). I originally had about 70 pages worth of stuff written, and I’m almost through bringing the first 50 pages or so (Chapters 1 and 2) up to snuff. However I’m now running into a challenge in the layout of the paper, and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions (seeing as how my whole thesis committee is out of town).

In a layout, the writer combines several elements to present the reader with the most accessible reading experience possible. The goal of any is clarity. A thesis that has a confusing layout will present a less convincing argument to the reader simply by way of the reader's not understanding what is happening therein. These elements that combine to form thesis layouts are the title page, abstract (if applicable), table of contents, body of the text divided into chapters, bibliography, index, and appendices.Obviously, the body of the text is the most important part of thesis layouts. Students should organize their work so that each chapter presents a major point of the thesis's argument; they should avoid having chapters that discuss too many ideas at once, instead allotting a chapter for each aspect of a complex argument. The table of contents is a standard element of thesis layouts. It includes the title of each chapter as well as the page on which that chapter begins; it may also include the titles and page numbers of subheadings. The introduction to a dissertation or thesis serves a few functions. First, it introduces the reader to the general topic at hand, as well as the approach which will be taken to investigate said topic. Second, it piques the reader's interest so that s/he wants to continue reading the text. Third, it gives the reader sufficient background information so that the topic and approach make sense, but not so much that it resembles the literature review. Finally, the introduction lays out the rest of the dissertation or thesis so the reader is left with a structure for what s/he will read. Accomplishing all of these tasks in a relatively short chapter - and doing so in a lively style, with relevant content - is difficult. Let GraduateWriter know if you need help kicking off your dissertation or thesis. Finally, thesis layouts include any necessary appendices. Appendices may contain charts or graphs, pictures, facsimiles of important documents, and discussions that are tangential to the main argument of the thesis. As you see, changing the page layout from to leads to asymmetric horizontal margins and corresponding shift of the text block while its width is .As you see, changing the page layout from to leads to asymmetric horizontal margins and corresponding shift of the text block while its width is .What exactly does Full Width Framework do? I did not see any change in the layout width or whatever after enabling it. Can you explain in layman’s term? The template does most of the layout work for you. Nevertheless, you can of course change the layout if desired. You might want a different citation style or you may not need an abstract. Many alternatives are given within the documents of the template as inactive lines (preceded by %), which can be activated as desired by uncommenting (removing the % sign). But at the very least, it shows, among others, the different layers I used (not many, just one for the cover background, one for the text and one for images), the paragraph styles (important for creating the Table of Contents, including separate ones for figures and tables), the character styles, and a couple of other things.
