I chose Thesis because it promised to give me more flexibility without being a coding expert. Like you, I was even more intimidated when I was confronted by such things as hooks and custom functions! After all, I moved to a database CMS to escape the technical demands of website ownership and concentrate on content. However, I was very impressed by the help I got (and continue to receive) from the Thesis Forums and sites like this one.

Weak "narrative" topic sentence: Lily Bart next travels to Bellomont, where she meets Lawrence Selden again.

Stronger "topic-based" topic sentence: A second example of Lily's gambling on her marriage chances occurs at Bellomont, where she ignores Percy Gryce in favor of Selden. [Note that this tells your reader that it's the second paragraph in a series of paragraph relating to the thesis, which in this case would be a thesis related to Lily's gambling on her marriage chances.]No matter how long that real-world essay ends up, though, it will have asense of introduction--usually a paragraph or more--to capture the reader'sattention and then set up the body of the essay for easier reading. Usually theintroduction will include a thesis statement--often a previewing thesisstatement if the essay is fairly complex.Outlines help the writer in the same way that thesis statements do--theyguide him or her through the content of the essay, setting up (at leasttemporarily) what will be included in the essay and what will not. A previewingthesis statement, like the three-point thesis statement above, is almost anoutline by itself. It states the essay idea (Television commercials arebetter crafted than most television programming . . .), and then itstates and orders the main developing ideas of the essay's body (...intheir video techniques, in their audio techniques, and in their use of language.).

Of course, outlines can be much more detailed than even previewing thesisstatements. In addition to identifying the essay idea, and the main supportingideas, and the order of the main supporting ideas, an outline might identify howthose main supporting ideas will themselves be developed. Part of aninformal outline on the television topic could look like this:

I. (Introduction) Commercials better crafted than programming
[many writers omit the introduction and conclusion from their outlines]

II. Better video techniques

A. Film versus videotape
B. More imaginative camera angles
C. More sophisticated editing

III. Better audio techniques

[and so on . . .]

Your outline could be more formal than this, and more detailed--each entry couldbe a complete sentence, and still more subordinate ideas or details could beadded (such as the naming of particular camera angles).

Your outline could be less formal--it could eliminate the numbers and letters, and just list key words to remind you of what you plan to say.

Regardless of the form it takes, the outline is just another tool for helpingyou examine and arrange what you want to say. As with the thesis statement, youshould feel comfortable about adding to, or subtracting from, or rearrangingyour outline at any stage in the writing process. For the first time, you can control every last detail of your site and design with three revolutionary features you won’t find in any other WordPress theme:Whether you’re running a business website or a personal blog, Thesis is a perfect choice because it enables you to do what other WordPress themes can’t. It is the first exercise to introduce arguing on two sides of a given question. Typical subjects for political themes include matters one would debate in a deliberative body such as, Should the city be walled? and general social issues such as "Should one marry?".
